A property lawyer does more than move the paperwork. We read the contract before you sign, tell you what to change, deal with the disclosure documents each state requires, and act for you if the sale turns into a dispute.
Optimum Lawyers is a property law firm in Parramatta Square, led by principal solicitor Wisam Assi. We act on property in every Australian state and territory. Use the directory above to find your city, or send us your contract.

We offer a free initial contract assessment. It is a brief first look at whether the contract appears ready for a full paid legal review. It is not the full review, and it is not free conveyancing.

How the states differ
| State | Cooling-off | Seller's main disclosure |
|---|---|---|
| NSW | 5 business days | The contract and its prescribed documents, prepared before marketing |
| Victoria | 3 clear business days | Section 32 vendor statement |
| Queensland | 5 business days | Seller disclosure statement (Form 2) |
| Western Australia | None required | Strata disclosure for strata lots |
| South Australia | 2 clear business days after the Form 1 | Form 1 vendor's statement |
| ACT | 5 business days | Building, pest and energy reports with the contract |
| Tasmania | None required | No general disclosure statement |
| Northern Territory | 4 business days | The approved form contract |
No state gives a cooling-off period on a purchase at auction.
Property lawyer or conveyancer?
A licensed conveyancer can handle a straightforward purchase well, often for a lower fee. A property lawyer can also give legal advice on the contract and the wider legal position, negotiate its terms, and represent you if the matter becomes a dispute. For a purchase in an unfamiliar state, an off-the-plan contract, a transfer or anything unusual, that advice is where the value is.
What clients say
“Wisam has been an invaluable partner throughout both my property buying and selling journeys.”

Questions about property lawyers
Can one law firm act on property in any state?
Yes. A solicitor holding a current Australian practising certificate can act on property in any state or territory.
Do I need to meet my property lawyer in person?
No. Documents can be signed where you live and settlements are electronic. You are welcome to meet us at Parramatta Square.
What does a property lawyer cost?
It depends on the property and the work. Under the Legal Profession Uniform Law we disclose our costs before we start.
What is the free initial contract assessment?
A brief first look at whether your contract appears ready for a full paid legal review. It is not the full review and it is not free conveyancing.
